Screenwriting Workshop with Peter Harness
In the Stafford Crane room Keble College 4-6pm Saturday 12th June (7th week), email secretary@ouds.org to book a space
Peter Harness is an award-winning screenwriter whose debut feature, 'Is Anybody There?', starring Michael Caine and David Morrissey, premiered in 2009 to critical acclaim. He has written a number of single films for TV, including the Spanish Flu drama 'The Forgotten Fallen', starring Bill Paterson and Mark Gatiss, and the Frankie Howerd biopic, 'Rather You Than Me', starring David Walliams and Rafe Spall. He also wrote the period crime drama 'City of Vice' and the mini-series '1066'. He is currently developing several feature films and original series, as well as writing the next series of 'Wallander'.
Peter will hold an hour lecture about screenwriting, which will include a Q&A session, after which anyone who wants to bring a screenplay of their own can have some one on one time with Peter. The focus of the lecture will be half practical advice on how to get into the industry, how to deal with the business aspect of screenwriting - and half the artistic side of it, how to write, what to look for etc
'Page to Stage' Shakespearean workshop with RADA tutor Nick Hutchison
Stafford Crane Room Keble College 11am-1pm Sunday 13th June, email secretary@ouds.org to book a space
Nick will lead a practical and interactive examination into the methods used by Elizabethan players to produce and perform plays in a theatrical environment wholly different from today's. The lecture/workshop examines how the texts inform performance, and how Shakespeare directs both actor and audience through the way he writes. Originally commissioned as a outreach project by the Globe Theatre Education.

TAMSIN OGLESBY
This Friday the playwright (and Hall alumni!) Tamsin Oglesby will be visiting St Edmund Hall to give a short talk followed by a question and answer session with students.
Her most recent play, 'Really Old, Like Forty Five' just finished a very successful run at the National and she's doubtless a very interesting person to ask about writing plays and how to be involved in drama after university and all that. Plus I'm sure she's very nice. You should come meet her!
THIS FRIDAY (Thursday of 7th), SEVEN THIRTY (that's in the evening, obviously) in the Old Dining Hall (it's just inside the front Quad of college - there'll be a sign - you can't miss it). Entry is FREE, and by no means limited to Teddy Hall students - anyone interested is very welcome to come. There'll be some form of tasty refreshments.
There's also a facebook group if you wanted to plug that:

New Drama in Conflict
In 8th week there will be a series of rehearsed readings of new plays from war zones. We are looking for actors to take part. The plays are by Russian, Middle Eastern, and British playwrights, including a couple of UK premieres. Rehearsed readings are a good way to discover new texts and have some fun acting without the weeks of work. To express and interest and sign up to any of the days, please contact Will.measham@magd.ox.ac.uk
PETER GLENVILLE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ENTRANCE TO DRAMA SCHOOL
OUDS sponsor this year is the Peter Glenville Foundation who have made 2010, our 125th Anniversary, that little bit more special by setting up a scholarship fund for the next five years that will split $15,000 USD equally among all successful entrants each year to any of the twenty-two CDS recognised drama schools in the UK or their international equivalents. If you are unsure whether your drama school is included within this list then please visit http://sites.stocksphere.com/cds/default.asp to find out. Any matriculated member of the university is eligible to apply by sending a copy of their drama school's acceptance letter to secretary@ouds.org with a covering letter with their name, college, graduation year and start date at drama school clearly written. If you have applied to drama school but do not expect to hear results before the end of term then please email the secretary to let him know when you think you will find out and we will wait on your results - good luck in the meantime. There is a considerable amount of funding on offer to help with the expenses of drama school and we are pleased that the Peter Glenville Foundation have so kindly agreed to ease the burden of student fees.

The Shakespeare Schools Festival is looking for volunteers to work as Volunteer Venue Assistants for our 2010 Festival.
The Shakespeare Schools Festival is a unique arts-education charity which offers young people, from a diverse collection of backgrounds, the opportunity and support to perform abridged productions of Shakespeare's most famous plays in their local professional theatre. Four secondary schools with pupils 11-18 perform four different Shakespeare plays each night. 650 schools are taking part (that’s 13,000 young people) and we are in 80 theatres across the UK. We are keen to open up our opportunities and after the success of last year’s pilot we are extending the offer to people interested in expanding their experience in the area of community and arts-education.
Festival performances will run from September 27 – November 19 2010 and volunteers will be required to work at least two days and as many as ten days (8.30 – 22.30).
Please look at our website ( http://www.ssf.uk.com/about-us/volunteers ) for a full person specification, job description and further details on how to apply. Deadline for applications is Tuesday 15th June, 5pm.

Murder in the Cathedral - Chorus auditions
Oxford Playhouse is producing a unique show in the dramatic environment of Christ Church Cathedral. As part of the Playhouse Plays Out programme, we're staging T.S Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral this Michaelmas (13th-16th October), and we'll be bringing together a cast made up of both Oxford students and professional actors. This Sunday (13th) we'll be holding some further auditions for actresses who have not yet auditioned.
WOMEN OF CANTERBURY
About half of MURDER IN THE CATHEDRAL is made up of a sort of Greek chorus. These are the women of Canterbury, who tell the story of the assassination of Thomas a Becket. We are aiming for 12 women to join the chorus of the Women of Canterbury, to include a mixture of singers and actors. Some of the Chorus's lines will be divided up, so there will be plenty of solo sections. And some of the Chorus's lines will be set to music, which will be specially commissioned for this production.
We are looking for:
Singers (particularly those with a strong choral background, choral scholars etc) who are interested in taking part in a professional theatre production.
Actors who have some singing experience (eg musicals, choirs etc).
Some people will do more singing than others, so we are looking for a good spread of singers-who-act and actors-who-sing (and people who consider themselves equally skilled in both areas).
To book an audition slot or for more info email chloe.courtney@trinity.ox.ac.uk
ACTOR SURVEY
Hello, I am a former Oxford University student. I'm carrying out some research with Professor Claridge (professor at Oxford on psychological disorders) on the creative ability of actors and how this ability may be associated with traits related to psychological disorders. We're trying to get a large sample of actors to fill out the online questionnaire, which should only take five minutes. We've already carried out the study with comedians and many of them found it very relevant to their everyday experiences and many wanted to know their individual score (which I can provide). So hopefully it would be something interesting for the OUDS members to fill in, rather than yet another boring psychology questionnaire! Below is the link to the survey (which also has more information about the study). Many thanks, Vicky.

We are based in Southampton and cover the south of England from Weymouth to Brighton and up to Reading and Oxford. I am keen to find people who are outgoing, intelligent, multi-layered, mature, ethical, charismatic with the ability and desire to talk to people from all walks of life. They should also be interested in journalism and social affairs. If they have done some journalism even better. It's a longshot - but if you have any members who would be interested in presenting some current affairs items for us they should email me a CV with a short video as to why they would be a good candidate.
If you're interested please email Jane French, series editor, on jane.french@bbc.co.uk or call her on 023 80374310.
